Nature in Fairytales

In stories and especially fairytales nature comes to life in a unique way. The woods are a place where the unknown of our unconscious becomes known in a playful yet truthful manner, sides of our psyche that we usually do not engage with, the dark scary places of being eaten alive, being burned, being abandoned, being frozen in time, being alienated from ourselves with no way home, being exposed to sides of ourselves that we either judge to be unacceptably ugly or unacceptably beautiful, both punished with imprisonment or death. Young people are not yet that defended and they can appreciate this aspect of human psyche freely, and with humour. Part of our journey is to maybe give more space to the fairytale’s darkness in our awareness and understand more fully the not so rosy ending. If so we maybe could create mor compassion and care in our daily life’s for others and ourselves.
